Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy

Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy (CBHT) combines clinical hypnosis with the cognitive behavioural therapy model to help clients address unhelpful and/or unwanted beliefs and thoughts. The main goal is to create more helpful, healthy beliefs as well as challenging and removing the unwanted ones. Using clinical hypnosis can allow clients to integrate helpful core beliefs and solutions through an unconscious learning process: clients are able to accept beneficial direction and strategies while their conscious thoughts are suspended.

This method of therapy calls upon clients to remain active in between sessions as well during the sessions themselves. As with any type of therapy, meaningful long-term success is defined by the client and requires ongoing collaboration between the client and therapist. Additionally, building up supports outside of the therapy room is essential while the client is undergoing this transformative work because challenging long-held beliefs often takes a great deal of uncomfortable work.

CBHT can help with a vast range of client issues and goals. Fundamentally, any problem that has a belief component can be successfully addressed. Although not a complete list of concerns, these are some examples in which CBHT may be helpful for:

  • Addiction (substance or process)

  • Anger management

  • Anxiety

  • Assertiveness and confidence

  • Depression

  • Grief and loss

  • Stress management

  • Trauma

  • PTSD and C-PTSD
