Sexual Health

& Intimacy Identity

A fulfilling intimate and sexual life is vital to health and also a natural, enjoyable part of being a human! However, for a variety of reasons, sex and intimacy can be sources of anxiety and worry. Sex therapy at Therapy Collective offers an integrative, intersectional and trauma-informed approach to explore and address psychological, personal and interpersonal factors which impact relational and sexual satisfaction – in a comfortable, cozy, safe and non-judgmental space.

As individuals, our thoughts, emotions, memories, and past experiences shape our perception of who we are – how much we feel valued, important, fulfilled, able to self-advocate, and connected to self. And naturally, we bring all of these aspects of ourselves into relationships: they inform and impact how we interact with each other. Where this is often noticeable is in our intimate and sexual partnerships. Many aspects of mental health are impacted by our sexual identity and health: confidence, self-esteem, body image, gender roles and how they manifest in sex and relationships, pain with sex, arousal and desire, accepting and embracing pleasure, disconnection of mind and body, trauma, attachment styles and how we inevitably show up in relationships.

Because each person is different, therapy is always centered on the client and focused on their individual needs. This type of therapy may include any combination of: processing of childhood, sexual, religious or other trauma, exploring and reconstructing one’s personal identity, reconnecting and building a stronger relationship with one’s body, strengthening mindfulness and reconnecting mind and body, uncovering and reforming core beliefs about self and the world, and in general, enhancing and strengthening one’s relationship with the self. Together with the therapist, clients will feel supported to solve problems, develop coping and communication skills, and strengthen self-esteem in order to lean into the satisfying sexual relationships and the life they deserve!
