Dancers, Athletes, & Artists

The challenges faced by early specialization sport and arts are unique. Early specialization and competitive/performance-based activities are rewarding, but also put great demands on participants.

Dancers, athletes, and artists may face issues that interfere with performance, such as: increased stress, difficulties sleeping or eating, anxiety, lowered confidence, negative self-talk, problems with time management, body image concerns, concerns related to perfectionism or self-worth.

Counselling for dancers, athletes, and artists is conducted much like a general mental health therapy session, but may incorporate movement, play, art, or somatic practices depending on the client's preference. Clinicians may draw from their own lived experience in early specialization sport/arts in order to truly understand the demands clients are facing. At times, sessions may focus on improving mental health and at other times on improving mental skills directly related to their sport/art.  This type of therapy is holistic and aims to guide clients towards embodiment using body-mind approaches.
